The great Italian Ape

I have a fondness for the Piaggio Ape, and will admit I have done since we first came to Italy. I don’t know a lot about the history of them… but Wikipedia will tell you they have been in production since after the war, 1948 to be exact. I can tell you what I know however and that is the Ape has 3 wheels, two at the back and one at the front. They come in a range of colours, the stock standards being red, blue and green (I have seen a black one for sale that I like the look of tho and an electric blue colour) along with a variety of styles whatever your working needs may be. And finally they sound like a little Bumble Bee buzzing down the road with their tiny 50cc engine… I have not learnt a lot of Italian while here but the word Ape in Italian translates to Bee.  Oh and most of them have handle bars as a steering wheel… To cute!

In our travels around italy when I can I try to take photos of these super little vehicles, so I thought I would share just a few of my collection with you.

Pictured is Erin, while staying for a long weekend with us she found an Ape for me to buy! They don’t come cheap, but they are pretty cool.
